Aug '12 Trip to Carmel - Part I

We had some Hyatt points we had to use, so we made a reservation at Hyatt Carmel Highlands for Saturday, 8/11, to Tuesday, 8/14. Again, we timed the trip during Mathis' summer break to reduce the amount of time Hansel would have to watch Mathis solo.

I felt a little funny about going to Hawaii and then going to work for two days and then going to Carmel and then missing two days. But what ya gonna do.

Saturday morning, I took the kids to the library to get their summer reading prizes while Hansel finished packing up the car. He picked us up from the library and we went to Beck's Kung Fu. After lunch, we met up with a contractor at a house in Los Altos. It was nice being back in that neck of the woods. We then hit the road.

The route we toke takes us pass the Gilroy Outlets, so we of course stopped. Our main reason for stopping was to find Maile a swimsuit. I had left the one she usually wears in Hawaii. But since it was pretty much the end of the season there was next to nothing. Luckily, I found some cute board shorts for only $8 at the Gap Outlet. Then, we decided to try our luck at Old Navy, which was close by. No swimsuits, but we bought a dri-fit shirt to use as a swim shirt as well as some other stuff.

This time the Hyatt put us in a townhouse-style unit with two floors. It's pretty much the same size as the single-floor units except the bedroom is above the living/kitchen area. Hansel liked this set up better. And they gave us a "partial" view. I put partial in quotes because that's how the front-desk guy described it, but really it was just a view. You looked out the window, and you could see the ocean. I'm used to seeing home shows, where partial views are if you stand on your tiptoes and look through a small sliver between trees, you can see some blue.

In the below photo from our unit, the partial  part of the view is really due to the clouds.

That night the boys made elaborate "car houses" with their magna-tiles. Below is one of their creations.
