12/24 Christmas in DC

On 12/23 we flew to DC to spend Christmas with the Eastcoast Lynns and Hansel's mom and stepdad. The flight there went pretty well. Mathis slept almost 3 hrs! I could have watched a movie, but alas we didn't bring any headphones.

We got in at night, and the kids didn't get ready for bed til pretty late (but actually at a reasonable west coast time). The first night we tried to put Maile, Beck, and their cousin Tabitha in one air bed in Tabitha's bedroom. At one point, Tabitha decided she had enough of Maile and Beck and crawled into her own bed. Later Anita heard Tabitha crying and went in and found Maile and Beck peering over the footboard staring at their crying cousin. No attempt to find Anita or console Tabitha.

Anita was the best host. She had something planned practically everyday. She even drew up a calendar, literally (it was drawn by hand). So the next day, the plan was for the kids to go out sledding before the snow melted. Normally when we're out there for Christmas, there isn't any snow. But a storm had passed through right before we got there.

We walked over to a hill behind a neighbor's house. Maile and Beck are being carried because they didn't have snow shoes, which will have consequences later.
Maile loved it. Beck did it once with Hansel, and once on his own. And then he was done. When he went down on his own, he used a saucer, which tends to spin around. I think that's what did it in for him.

I went back to the house first. By the time Maile came back she realized her feet were freezing. Her ankles were super red from the cold. Suffice to say, she was not interested in going sledding for the rest of the trip.

After unwinding from sledding, Hansel and the kids made up some songs. It's nice to have a musical husband.

Later Hansel went for a walk and took some photos with a tripod and a remote. Here's one he took of himself.
Anita's family as well as a cousin came over for Christmas Eve dinner. It was delicious. Anita was conscientious about our diet and had a seafood dish as well as a meat dish. Beck had a great time that night pushing around big trucks with one of Anita's nephews.
